Neutral Labs Luna
Inspired by the CMOS-powered Lunetta DIY synths from the 70's and 80's, Luna from Neutral Labs is a raw, percussion-focused device that is chaotic, messy, and incredibly fun. Luna is outfitted with five oscillators that control the entire device, two of which are CV addressable. In addition to creating sound, the CMOS oscillators are used to generate clock signals for creating rhythmic patterns. To do that, logic blocks are used to create unique and evolving systems of interactivity between operations, and on the Luna there is no shortage of logical operations for generating happy-accidents galore.
Patch into the five Step Ring Counters for timing derivatives, use one of the two available shift registers to send CV around the device, or use the 4-bit Binary Counter for more complex patterns. A four-channel Multiplexer allows for creative combination of audio and CV separately or in combination, enabling wonderful motions of sound waiting to be discovered.
While the raw sound is captivating on its own, Luna excels in offering options for in-the-box audio processing. Festooned with 3 low pass gates, you can tame the harshness and get to bongo-like territory, complete with decay control and a switchable trigger mode. If that wasn't enough, use the two audio effect slots to add additional sculpting options such as drive, bitcrusher, and six different filter types. Alternatively, add some movement with a phaser, delay, or chorus and tuck everything into a nice bed of reverb. Truly one of the best innovations in the CMOS sphere in decades, Luna from Neutral Labs conjures up spectres of the past to inspire the future.
