      NOISE ENGINEERING BASIMILUS ITERITAS ALIA

Noise Engineering's legendary percussion synthesis module lives on: the Basimilus Iteritas Alia delivers some of the heaviest-hitting drums this side of Eurorack, and it's all on a new swappable firmware platform. In its prior form, the Basimilus Iteritas Alter, the BIA became a beloved source of drums, subs, noise, and even melodic instruments, thanks to its curated assortment of controls working together to define its sound. Instead of worrying about an abundance of parameters in its additive and FM-based sound engines, carefully tuned controls give you a broad palette of sounds—lending the BIA its reputation as a full drum machine in a single voice module.

With three different modes, the BIA can easily shift its sonic profile at the flick of a switch. Between Skin, Liquid, and Metal modes, the configuration and arrangement of six internal oscillators and noise sources lend to a variety of drum, cymbals, and general percussion sounds. You can even inject CV or gates into the S/L/M input to change modes on the fly. Similarly, the note and frequency range of the Pitch control is determined by the Bass, Alto, and Treble settings, along with its corresponding B/A/T input.

Getting into the other parameters, you'll find that the Basimilus Iteritas Alia continues to be ever-flexible in its timbral shaping. Spread and Harmonic respectively define the distribution of pitches as well as the volume and rate of decay for higher partials. With Morph, you get variable control over the waveform used for all oscillators—blending between sine, triangle, saw, and square. Of course, as a Noise Engineering module, a certain level of gnarliness and decimation is to be expected—Fold imparts the signature NE Infinifold wavefolder and blends in pulse train signals at extreme settings for maximum harmonic content. Finally, dependable Decay and flexible Attack controls give you amplitude shaping over notes—turn it to the left to blend in white noise, or turn it to the right to roll off the transient edge for more gradual swells.

Like the Versio and Legio platforms before it, the Alia platform allows you to easily and freely swap between different firmware on your BIA. That's right, now your Basimilus can become a Manis, or any other algorithm that Noise Engineering makes available in the future. Bring the most famous Eurorack percussion voice (and more) to your rack with the Basimilus Iteritas Alia from Noise Engineering.
